Lessons with Katrina

I started taking piano lessons at the age of 3 and continued to study it throughout my undergraduate degree in classical voice. As a teacher, I’ve had much experience teaching students in various stages of their musical life, ranging from complete beginners to working professional musicians, and children and adults with special needs. I offer three types of lessons in my studio: voice, piano, and sight-reading.

Piano

I teach beginner to advanced beginner/intermediate piano lessons to children and adults, tailored to the kind of learning style they want (traditional vs fun or maybe a combination of both). Piano lessons help you develop crucial musical skills, which also helps if you want to play another instrument or want to sing better.  Whatever your goal is for wanting to learn piano or improve your skills, I’m here to help!

Voice

I teach classical techniques tailored to your needs– whatever goals you may have, whatever stage of your singing journey you’re in. We start with vocal warm-ups, and then during the remainder of the lesson, we'll sing through music– with respect to diction, acting, and expression. You’ll learn to release tension you’re holding in your body and to deepen your breath. My goal is for you to be able to sing confidently and communicate well with your full, expressive, unique voice.

Sight-Reading

I teach students how to develop skills to be able to read music on sight. Auditioned community choirs, high school vocal competitions, and professional choirs require their singers to undergo a sight-reading exam, which many find so daunting. I am here to help empower you with tools that you will need to improve your approach sight-reading, so that it becomes a skill you’re able to use whenever you need!
